Historic Downtown Alpena

is the heart of the community of Alpena, and proud to house many of Alpena’s most historic buildings. While we have thoroughly modern businesses and business people here in downtown, and surely have totally updated infrastructure and technology, we are always conscious of our heritage, and our obligation to maintain and restore our magnificent historic properties. The DDA has programs in place to support our wonderful property owners as they continue to do just that. Those programs are explained and referenced in total here on this website.

Business Support

The DDA also helps downtown businesses in many ways. We have a business support team of volunteer professionals, and support businesses through promotional and marketing activities. Business retention and recruitment are important programs of the DDA. These programs are also explained on this site.

Downtown Partnerships

As the heart of the community, the downtown recognizes that “if it is good for downtown, it is good for Alpena as a whole”, and just as importantly, we recognize that “if it is good for the community, it is good for downtown”. The DDA works in partnership with most community institutions and organizations; in particular, the DDA works most regularly with the City of Alpena, the Alpena Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce, Target Alpena, and of course, one of our newest downtown residents, The Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
